The Upper Don Trail is a work in progress, and there’s tremendous opportunity for the whole Sheffield community to get involved.
The image above shows volunteers working to clear compacted leafmould in Beeley Wood, between Oughtibridge and Clay Wheels Lane.
We think this is one of the most beautiful stretches of active travel route to be found anywhere in the UK, but it still needs a wash and brush-up from time to time to keep it clear.
Closer to the city centre, the old Club Mill Road track needs a lot of improvement to make it fit for purpose, and there’s rather a lot of rubbish that could find a better home at the local tip.
Further north, between Oughtibridge and Stocksbridge, whole sections of the riverside route remain to be built.
The Upper Don Trail trustees are excited by these challenges and are working with many partners across the city to make things happen.
We’d love you to come on the journey with us! You can do this in so many ways.
Perhaps the easiest way of getting involved is simply to come along when we have something going on. We’ll be organising more clean-up days and will use this website and our social media channels to let you know how you can volunteer. Watch this space!
If you’d like to help fund our work, you can sign up as a member of the Trust and make a modest donation. You’ll then be able to come to the agm every year and have a say in how our work progresses. We hope to make it possible to sign up online quite soon.
If you have relevant skills and would like to make a bigger contribution, we’d love you to get involved in our regular steering group meetings, or perhaps to consider becoming a trustee.
Just drop us a line and we can take it from there. We know you’re itching to get involved, and we look forward to hearing from you soon!
